Ari Marcopoulos: Zines

A rare opportunity to see inside some of Ari Marcopoulos's self printed and published short run zines, and the PDF zines that he made during the COVID pandemic. It's an intensely personal body of work, and as many of these have never been released before this book will likely be the only chance we get to see the vast majority of these.

The printed zines date from 2015 to 2019 with the digital zines spanning April 2020 to October 2021. 2015-2021 was clearly a period of time that encompassed so much of contemporary American history in such a relatively short span of time. Trump, George Floyd and the huge public reaction to his murder and racial injustice, Biden, COVID. Seeing Ari's work shot during these times and the human subjects within adds an unpleasant context of impending - and experienced - dread.

340 pages, 22 X 22cm, softcover, published by Aperture.

Friends, family, neighbours, couriers, strangers. It's an incredibly human group of zines (full of happiness and community despite the often dark mood of these times) compiled here for the first time in a wonderful collection from one of the most influential and important photographers and zine makers working today.
