Uscita Magazine 0: Skateboarding At The Museum

The first edition of Italian publication Uscita is here, and I promise you you won't have seen a skateboard magazine quite like this before. Put together by Federico Casella, Igor Fardin and Jacopo Atzori, Uscita aims to "investigate skateboarding culture and its links with other aspects of life. Using skateboarding as a tool to touch wider topics, Uscita wants to find out what skateboarding has to say when it is not only talking to itself". It's a thoroughly unpretentious and unbiased investigation into what happens when skateboarders work with artists and institutions, and come into contact with people from outside of their culture.

Issue 0 focuses on what happens when skateboard enters the museum environment, as it did when artist Koo Jeong A's skateable sculpture OooOoO was installed in Triennale Milan gallery. It features an interview with the artist, a “taking your kids to skate class” interviews, in which parents discuss skateboarding lessons in the fluorescent bowl, an interview with the gallery’s artistic director Lorenza Baroncelli discussing the concept behind OooOoO, “To build a work of art” an interview with Ctrl+Z chief constructor discussing the construction path of OooOoO and turning an art design into a skateable piece, an interview with curator of the exhibition of which OooOoO was a part Julia Peyton-Jones and more.
