The third of Takahiro Morita's 2020 series of 25th anniversary reissues of his catalogue of foundational Japanese videos through Far East Skate Network is here. Tozainanboku (East, West, North and South) came out in 1997, filmed during 1996 and 1997 and was a serious step up in all aspects from the two preceding videos, FESN and Subway. Takahiro cites Eastern Exposure 3 himself as a major influence and you can see that in parts in both the skating and the filming, always woven in with Takahiro's own emerging unique style. It was like nothing much else available at the time of its release which makes it all the more amazing how few people saw this outside of Japan when it came out.
Amazing editing referencing Japanese and worldwide pop culture throughout set to an amazing soundtrack woven together by DJ Bill Davis. It really does feel like a mid to late 90s Japanese Bronze video. If you like your 90s Mo Wax vibes you are going to lose your mind over this one.
45 1/2 minutes with a 17 1/2 minute making of documentary. Comes with a full colour 16 page booklet about the production of the video and a sticker.
Three DVDs in and this series of reissues is really getting going, if you aren't lucky enough to have this on VHS chances are you have never seen it before, and if you follow your history this one really is an integral part of the development of skateboard videos, whether anyone in California knew that at the time or not.
