20 years after Jocko began his Elk series of 'zines, this 274 page softcover book revives the format after a 5 year break. Over 14 years 34 issues came out, always in a photocopied 5 3/8 × 8” saddle stitched format, each at around 60 pages with full-colour cover. While the same concept, this book is not a compilation made up of those original 14 'zines, it is an entirely new standalone book featuring all new material.
This format consists of a dizzying selection of found materials including photographs from books and unorthodox periodicals, works of art, historical documents, letters, poems, spam emails, notes, illustrations, 'zines, adverts and pretty much anything else. These are then presented side by side with each double page spread consisting of 2 images paired together by associations which are sometimes obvious and straightforward but often abstract and less straightforward. If these parings are not apparent to you there is a full extensive accreditation and a comprehensive index at the back of the book so you can fall down the joyful rabbit hole that is Elk.
