Far East Skate Network - Subway: 25th Anniversary Reissue

The second in Takahiro Morita's 2020 series of 25th anniversary reissues of his catalogue of foundational Japanese videos through Far East Skate Network. Just 6 months after FESN (the first ever Japanese video) Morita was back with Subway. As with FESN Subway is heavily influenced by 411VM but never in a cynical or plagiarised way, templates to work from in the pre internet mid 90s were limited, especially in Japan.

Released in 1996 Subway is again separated in a video magazine format with Rookies, Chaos, Vert, and West Area sections, along with some amazing adverts in two commercial breaks. Standouts include Ryuichi Tanaka, Alex Lee Chang, Yuihi Ohara, Morita himself, big hill bombs from Genichi Maruya, Takaoki 'Hassy' Hashimoto and so many more. Still filmed with the trusty Sony Handycam Pro VX-1, the look, sounds and soundtrack are so evocative of the time. Steeze in abundance.

49 minutes with a 13 minute making of documentary. Comes with a full colour 16 page booklet and a sticker.

Seriously, two releases in and this series of reissues is really something else, essential essential business for anyone with even the slightest interest in the history of our culture the world over.
